In September 2025, Kodal received its export permit for the lithium spodumene produced at Bougouni from the Mali Ministry of Mines
The permit approved an initial 125,000 tonnes of spodumene concentrate. Kodal also granted the transportation contract to Malian transportation company, Taguna Motors. The first trucks left site in October 2025, with over 30,000 tonnes of spodumene product transported to port to date. The first shipments to China left port in December 2025, transporting 28,950 tonnes of lithium spodumene concentrate.
In order to expedite the export process, Kodal has installed a weighbridge and a Mali customs official onsite to ensure all appropriate paperwork is completed ahead of transportation of product to port.
The Bougouni Lithium Project is located in Southern Mali, 180km south of the capital Bamako and benefits from having great access to several reliable transport routes to export its lithium product to international markets
KMUK has arranged to export its lithium concentrate product to China from the Port of San Pedro with the Port of Abidjan in Cote d’Ivoire remaining as an alternative export route.
The routes to both ports, roughly 900km over the course of five days and with one border crossing, are well established and secure truck routes which are used for multitude of deliveries to/from Bamako and which many pass through the town of Bougouni
Kodal has agreed a contract with a multi-jurisdictional freight services company to handle the storage and load out of product at the ports.Â
Kodal has 40,000 tonnes of storage capacity at the preferred port of San Pedro, providing adequate storage capacity to allow a continuous stream of lithium spodumene export from Bougouni to ports ahead of shipping.
Hainan Mining is arranging the ships that will transport the lithium spodumene to its lithium hydroxide plant in China, and also has full responsibility for the vessel costs.
The shipping route to China takes approximately 4 to 6 weeks.
