Kodal Minerals: thriving in Mali
Chief executive on how the company manages risk

The detention of Resolute and Barrick Gold executives and subsequent payments in hundreds of millions of USD to Mali authorities grabbed headlines recently.
A new mining code was enacted last year, with the government disputing tax it said companies owed and changing the terms of operating there.
Since then, Leo Lithium has effectively ‘escaped’ the country while others have paid hefty fees.
One company that won’t be rushing to leave any time soon is Kodal Minerals. The lithium miner has agreed to pay the Mali government US $15m and is “on track” for production in the first quarter of 2025.
